Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann surprisingly traded his match-worn jersey for a set of Pokemon cards from a fan present in the stands of the Metropolitano stadium. The incident occurred after the club’s 5-0 Copa del Rey victory over Getafe.

Antoine Griezmann was not on the scoresheet as Atletico Madrid claimed an impressive 5-0 win over Getafe in the quarterfinals of the Copa del Rey. While Atletico dominated on the pitch, the Frenchman made a surprising deal off the pitch. He handed out his red match shirt to Pokemon streamer Darizard and his son. It was in exchange for a set of unique Pokemon trading cards.

Griezmann received two sealed trainer boxes of the rare Prismatic Evolution Pokemon cards, leaving fans awestruck. The Frenchman was equally delighted as the fan after having exchanged the items. His love for Pokemon is quite far-fetched. Griezmann had previously posted a picture of himself alongside the iconic character Pikachu on social media back in 2016.

Fans would, however, argue that the 33-year-old forward could have sold his match-worn shirt for a better deal. He could have easily earned up to $3500 for the shit, way more than the two Prismatic Evolution Pokemon trading cards that he received. The two limited edition boxes contain a total of 180 cards and have been in heavy demand for the last few months.

Nonetheless, Griezmann has been in great form this season as Atletico Madrid remain in the second position on the La Liga table. The club sits one point off leaders Real Madrid. Meanwhile, in the Copa del Rey, they have made it to the semi-finals.

Atletico Madrid eyes Las Palmas forward as Antoine Griezmann successor

Atletico Madrid could be on the lookout for a new forward amid rumors of Antoine Griezmann’s potential departure out of the club next summer. The Madrid side has registered interest in signing 22-year-old Las Palmas forward Fabio Silva.

Griezmann could possibly be on his way out next summer following interest from several MLS and Serie A clubs. Angel Correa has been linked with a move to the Saudi PL. Amid uncertainty surrounding their future, the club has identified Fabio Silva as a long-term replacement. The Portuguese forward has scored seven goals and provided two assists this season after joining on loan from Wolverhampton.

Interestingly, two of Silva’s goals this season came against Real Madrid and Barcelona. He would likely be open to parting ways with the Wolves after having fallen down their pecking order. Apart from Silva, Atletico are also lining up a transfer for Villareal midfielder Alex Baena.
