Antonio Rudiger and Kepa Arrizabalaga involved in a heated clash in training; Tuchel sends defender home early

Antonio Rudiger and goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga clashed in training after Chelsea endured their first loss under Thomas Tuchel yesterday. Thomas Tuchel had to intervene between the duo and sent the defender home early in order to avoid any further escalation.

Thomas Tuchel had called on Chelsea players to keep their head after the huge defeat and it appears the players failed to do so. Both Rudiger and Kepa were unused substitutes in the 5-2 defeat but tempers got flared up at Cobham between the German and Spanish duo.

Sources have claimed the disagreement was sparked by a late tackle by Rudiger on the Spaniard, who reacted strongly before things escalated into a physical confrontation.

Former Paris Saint-Germain manager Tuchel swiftly decided his compatriot Rudiger had not calmed down enough to finish training, so he cooled off indoors while Kepa continued the last five minutes of the session at Cobham.

“We cannot lose our heads now and take away the trust we have in these players,” Tuchel said after the defeat. “It was the moment after the game to be honest, be calm and to tell everybody to breathe.”

“This will be a hard evening for everybody. We had completely different plans how to start this match day so we have to accept it now, it’s our first loss together. It’s important to find a way to deal with it together.”

Club captain Cesar Azpilicueta and Reece James are said to have been involved in a heated discussion in the aftermath of the West Brom defeat. James was partially to blame for the Baggies second goal as the Blues’ defence fell apart following Thiago Silva’s red card.

Chelsea have an important match coming up against Porto in the Champions league and the manager would want his players to completely move on from the upset defeat at the weekend.
