New Zealand, in an attempt to derail India’s flying-start to the competition, took three early wickets into the match. Viral Kohli‘s dismissal in just the sixth over of the match, left fans shell-shocked. He was caught out for a low individual score of 11 runs off 14 deliveries. The 36-year-old veteran batter, who was playing his 300th ODI, came off the back of a brilliant match-winning century against Pakistan.

Glenn Phillips pulled off a jaw-dropping catch to dismiss Kohli, who tried to put Matt Henry‘s delivery past the fielder present at backward point. With a reaction time of just 0.62 seconds, Phillips dived full-stretch to his right to catch a one-handed blinder. Anushka Sharma had a crazy reaction to Phillips’s effort and her husband’s dismissal. She put her hand to her head, perfectly depicting the nerves of the game.

Meanwhile, Glenn Phillips was praised by fans and cricket legends alike, drawing comparisons between him and former New Zealand great Brendon McCullum. Ex-Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh also compared Phillips’s catch to one of Jonty Rhodes‘s iconic catch.

Akash Chopra bizarrely compares Virat Kohli with former Canadian sprinter Ben Johnson

While commenting on Indian cricket star Virat Kohli’s achievements, ex-Indian cricketer-turned analyst Akash Chopra bizarrely compared Kohli with former Canadian sprinter Ben Johnson. Chopra was referring to Kohli being the fastest player to scorer 14,000 ODI runs.

Akash Chopra interestingly mentioned that the 36-year-old batter is running a solo race, after having previously achieved the milestones of the fastest to score 13,000; 12,000; 11,000 and 10,000 runs. He compared it to the likes of Johnson, who had once set multiple world records. However, Sunil Gavaskar quickly pointed to how Johnson was disgracefully stripped of his medals for doping.

Nonetheless, Akash Chopra realized his error, and corrected himself by stating that Kohli should be compared with Usain Bolt instead. Meanwhile, Suresh Raina drew similarities between Kohli and Milkha Singh.
