Stefanos Tsitsipas‘ father Apostolos Tsitsipas broke silence on his son’s cryptic social media post which started rumors that things are not well between the two. In one of his recent Instagram posts, the Greek player shared a video on the last slide, which was about what happens when a child is raised by ‘narcissistic parents’.

Stefanos did not reveal why he shared the video. As per the video, children were loved as well as used by the parents, leading to ‘anxiety, anger and pain’.

The child of a narcissistic parent learns early that love is conditional. They quickly understand they’ll only be loved for what they do, not who they are. The child abandons their true self, morphing into whatever version their highly critical and opinionated parent deems worthy.

The narrator in Stefanos Tsitsipas’ post says

Apostolos in response said the post was not his son’s as he borrowed it from YouTube. He thinks Stefanos did not talk about him or anyone in particular but was simply saying that parents love their children deeply and sometimes ‘love them pathologically’.

Narcissism means a pathological love for my children. And I want my children to be better than me, that’s what it means.

Stefanos Tsitsipas’ mother once revealed he had conflicts with his father for years

Stefanos Tsitsipas parted ways with Apostolos Tsitsipas as his coach after a heated argument between the two during the Canadian Open in August this year. Stefanos had shouted at Apostolos during his match against Kei Nishikori and had criticized him at the press conference afterward.

Later through a social media post, Stefanos stated that he wanted to ‘prefer to keep my father in his role as a father‘. Stefanos’ mother Julia Apostoli in an interview revealed that since 2020, when Stefamos lost at the US Open, things were not well between the two.

However, I think that Stefanos and Apostolos did not have a good relationship since then, they had constant conflicts. And that’s why Stefanos made the decision to change his coach.

Julia Apostoli said during an interview with PortoThema

Tsitsipas had a lackluster season in 2024 as he won just the Monte-Carlo Masters. He failed to qualify for the ATP Finals and ended his season at the Paris Masters with a 45-22 win-loss record.
