A day after losing 7-2 at the hands of the New York Rangers, Montreal Canadiens’ star Arber Xhekaj has issued a stern warning to Jacob Trouba. This comes after the Rangers captain delivered a huge hit on Xhekaj’s teammate Justin Barron.
The incident took place in the third period when the Rangers were leading 5-2. As Barron moved forward, Trouba would come from the side and hit him. This hit led to a brawl between Trouba and Mike Matheson, who stood up in defense for his teammate.
Fans on social media criticized Trouba for this hit. While the action unfolded on the ice field, Xhekaj was sitting out as he was not named in the lineup. The defenceman later admitted that he would have done something if he was on the field at that time.
#Habs Arber Xhekaj on #NYR Trouba's hit on Justin Barron: "to throw a hit like that, I didn't like to see it and know I probably would have done something if I was in the line-up or addressed it for sure but we'll definitely remember it and see what happens next game."

The next meeting between these two teams will be on November 30 when the Canadiens travel to the Madison Square Garden. With this warning from Xhekaj, things could get heated between him and Trouba.
Jacob Trouba escapes punishment for hit on Justin Barron
Following Jacob Trouba’s hit on Justin Barron, several fans expected a fine and disciplinary action against the Rangers’ captain. However, the NHL Department of Player Safety deemed the hit on Barron as clean and did not take any action against Trouba. This was confirmed by ESPN‘s Greg Wyshynski on X.
While the hit got its share of scrutiny last night, I'm told no supplemental discipline from the NHL Dept. of Player Safety for @NYRangers Jacob Trouba for his check on @CanadiensMTL Justin Barron.

As per Wyshynski, the review by the NHL determined the hit from Trouba was a legal full body check. If the contact was with his head, the hit would have been covered under Rule 48.1 which considers “whether the player attempted to hit squarely through the opponent’s body and the head was not ‘picked’ as a result of poor timing, poor angle of approach, or unnecessary extension of the body upward or outward.”
Barron, on the other hand, is reported to have suffered an upper-body injury. The player will be monitored day-to-day and his selection will be re-evaluated by the team before they face the St. Louis Blues.
