Arch Manning gobbled the early hiccup in his first start for the Texas Longhorns on Saturday night college football. The sophomore quarterback collected himself and rattled the University of Louisiana Monroe.

Monroe played mind games before coming into the den of the Longhorns. Head coach Bryant Vincent claimed several players in his team played against Manning and won in school. However, he never mentioned any names, so the legitimacy of the claim remained unproven.

Furthermore, Monroe quarterback General Booty (Maximus Axel Booty) vowed to defeat the Longhorns at their home, causing them to lose their #1 ranking in college football. Manning’s start to the game was shaky, and when the Monroe edge rusher pressed him, the 19-year-old threw a dart to Louisiana’s #8 Carl Fauntroy Jr.

Despite acquiring possession of the ball, ULM failed to move the score and paid the price on the Longhorns’ next drive.

Arch Manning showcased why he might be a future #1 draft prospect. He dropped back and, right before the ULM defense got to him, launched a deep ball into single coverage, looking for Isaiah Bond. The young wide receiver caught the ball just outside of the red zone.

In the very next play, Manning found Jaydon Blue to score the first of his three rushing touchdowns of the game.

The onslaught continued with back-to-back touchdowns from Blue and Ryan Wingo for 3 yards rushing and 17 yards receiving. Manning followed it up with a 2-yard layoff to Blue once more and then another 2-yarder to Jerrick Gibson. He finished the night off with a 1-yard handoff to Ryan Niblett. The game ended with a scoreline of 51-3.

Arch Manning finished with 15/29 with a 51.29 completion rate for 257 passing yards, 2 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions. Jaydon Blue rushed 25 times for 124 yards and 3 touchdowns. The Longhorns’ best receiver in the game was Isaiah Bond, who caught the ball twice for 75 yards.

Before the Longhorns took on ULM at Texas Memorial, ESPN’s college football host Pat McAfee revealed very important information about Arch Manning’s future in college football. According to the former NFL punter turned sports analyst/host, Manning plans to continue with the Texas Longhorns for the next four years.

Current designated starter Quinn Ewers got sidelined in the UTSA game after suffering a lower abdomen injury. It’s likely that when Ewers is healthy, he will take over once more because it’s his final year before announcing for the NFL. After that, the quarterback job will eventually fall on the shoulders of Manning.
