A week after getting shut out by Georgia, Arch Manning capped off a scintillating individual performance in a win against the Arkansas Razorbacks. Manning not only scored and rushed for a touchdown but also caught one in the first quarter.

Steve Sarkisian greenlit the Philly special/wildcat formation in which Manning lined up as an outside receiver. Manning’s roommate and redshirt freshman wide receiver Parker Livingstone threw an accurate pass to the sophomore quarterback wide open for a touchdown.

This was only the beginning of a historic day for Peyton and Eli Manning‘s nephew. Arch completed 18 passes (60%) for 389 yards, 4 touchdown passes (3 to DeAndre Moore Jr. and 1 to Livingstone), and 1 rushing touchdown from 2 carries.

Manning recorded a mouth-watering passer rating of 212.9 (first 200 RTG since logging 256.5 RTG against Sam Houston in week 4). Texas won the game 52-37.

According to Bleacher Report’s research team, Arch Manning became the first SEC quarterback since Dak Prescott (Mississippi State Bulldogs) in 2014 to record a passing, rushing, and receiving touchdown in one game.

Incredibly, Prescott achieved the feat twice in his college career. Arkansas has been on the receiving end of a Dak Prescott onslaught a few times, but none is more memorable than the November 2015 game at Little Rock. Prescott threw for 508 yards, 5 passing touchdowns, and ran for 2 more in a 51-50 victory for the Bulldogs.

He was taken 135th overall in the 2016 NFL draft by the Dallas Cowboys, where he has been ever since. Prescott became the highest-paid player in NFL history in 2024.

Quarterbacks rarely line up to receive passes unless they are Brady Hunt of Ball State, who scored a record 5 receiving touchdowns in his freshman year. Manning is miles away from that particular record, but he has bigger fish to fry.

Nevertheless, the moment turned out to be a memorable one for Manning. Speaking with reporters in the post-game presser, Manning revealed that coach Sarkisian was the driving force behind the wildcat formation that led to his touchdown.

We were excited to call it. We had a call it at the timeout and we gotta keep it up so, it was good… It was sunny, so kinda lost [the ball] for a second, but yeah, it was good.

The win improved the Texas Longhorns’ record to 8-3 (5-2 in the SEC and 5-0 at home). Texas still has an outside chance to qualify for the playoffs. For the team to achieve that, Texas must win against the undefeated Texas A&M, a team that blew out Samford 48-0 in the earlier kickoff. Moreover, they also need Alabama, Vanderbilt, and Oklahoma to lose their final games.

A similar outing against the Aggies could be enough to secure a win for Texas. After 11 games, Manning has thrown for 2763 yards (62.3%), 31 total touchdowns, and 7 interceptions.
