Real Madrid and Barcelona have been rivals for more than a century. The two ‘biggest’ clubs in Spain are still going strong and their fans often clash on social media. Besides debating on which side is better, both sets of fans often disagree between who is the better player in comparison to that of another from the rival team.
Lamine Yamal has presented himself as the player that will lead the club into the new era, with his exploits on the pitch speaking for themselves. Madrid aren’t short on young talent either, with Arda Guler leading the discussion for the Los Blancos. However, the Turkish star has hit a poor run of form and has failed to score in 13 games for both club and country.
As per official statistic reports, the player has played 13 games this season and has failed to score a single goal. Surprisingly, he has made a total of 22 attempts throughout the season, but to no avail.
As he took to the pitch for Turkey in the National team, none of his six shots against Montenegro failed to hit the target. Guler has been reduced to a secondary role on the bench at Madrid.
Fans react to Arda Guler’s ‘poor’ run of form
Turkish star Arda Guler was brought to Real Madrid in July 2023 for a $21.7 million fee from Fenerbahce. Despite the high hopes among fans, Carlo Ancelotti hasn’t been able to give the 19-year-old a regular spot in the starting line-up. The player came off the bench in a majority of the games this season, including the 1-0 loss to Lille in the Champions League.
A fan commented that it is criminal to compare a player like him to Lamine Yamal, who scores or assists week in, week out. A Madridista blamed Carlo Ancelotti for destroying the youngster’s confidence by keeping him on the bench and urged him to leave the club to gain valuable playing time. Another supporter added that he’s just 19 years old and will definitely improve with age.
Guler predominantly operates as an attack-minded midfielder or as a winger too. Despite his billing as one of the best young players in the world, recent performances and disappointing displays have spoilt the player’s reputation among social media, especially among rival fans.
Despite his lack of form, Madrid are currently second in La Liga and 17th in the combined group stage of the new UCL format.
