Are Browns trying to work on a massive trade for Dak Prescott with Cowboys?
Dak Prescott despite signing the biggest NFL contract in history only a year ago, may end up getting traded to the Cleveland Browns.

When Myles Garrett hinted that he had an idea who the Cleveland Browns quarterback would be in 2026, fans and analysts speculated that it could be either Russell Wilson or a rookie like Cam Ward. No one suspected Dak Prescott’s name.
However, Cleveland Sports broadcaster Bruce Drennan on The Bruce Drennan Show revealed that the Browns were close to trading for Dak Prescott. Drennan got the scoop from an insider at the Browns facility.
I’ve got a pretty good source within the Browns organization. I heard, since our last show, that part of the reason that Myles Garrett was willing to sign his [contract] extension—yeah, money, money, money—was that the Browns are negotiating as we speak with the Dallas Cowboys for a trade with Dak Prescott.

The news created chaos on social media. Hardly anyone was expecting Dak Prescott’s name to be linked with a trade to the Browns. The 31-year-old signed a $240 million extension last offseason and is under contract through 2028. Even though he converted $45.7 million of his salary into a signing bonus, creating $36.6 million in cap space, Prescott still earns north of $60 million per year.
The Browns gave Myles Garrett a year-long, $160 million extension ($40 million per year), making him the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history. On top of it, they still have Deshaun Watson on their payroll. Watson is unlikely to play in 2025 due to injury but will take home $46 million.
Trading for Dak Prescott isn’t a bad proposition, but the amount of money involved in the deal is staggering. Prescott is a fine regular season QB but so far hasn’t produced results in the playoffs, winning just two games in nine years. Not to forget, the Cowboys haven’t played in the NFC Championship game since 1995.
The Browns will also have to figure out a way to bypass Prescott’s ‘no trade’ clause if they wish to make the 4x Pro Bowler their next franchise quarterback.
Are the Browns really talking about trading for Dak Prescott?
Following his blockbuster extension with the Browns, Myles Garrett sat down with NFL insider Andrew Siciliano. Siciliano asked Garrett whether he had any idea about the quarterback situation of the Browns.
After conversations, I do have an idea. I like it [the idea] enough to be here smiling in front of you because I think we have a good chance of that happening and making the most out of it.
Myles Garrett said

Siciliano tried to squeeze out a name from the 2023 defensive player of the year but wasn’t able to. “You know I can’t do that,” Garrett said.
During a Browns presser, reporters floated the idea of Russell Wilson signing for the AFC North side. Wilson was a free agent after the Pittsburgh Steelers didn’t re-sign him. He was scheduled to visit Cleveland.
[Russell Wilson] and I had a little bit of conversation at the Pro Bowl, as well as here. I think he’d be a valuable asset as a leader and as a mentor to those young guys [because] veteran leadership can’t be overstated. I think he definitely has some juice left. He has plenty of arm left; he’s very smart, and he knows what he’s capable of. So, he’d be a valuable asset.
Myles Garrett added
Russell Wilson ended up signing for the New York Giants instead
Shortly after Wilson’s deal went viral, Drennan broke his news about Dak Prescott’s possible trade to the Browns. The only downside is there’s no trade.
I run it all down when working this beat, and the Dallas Cowboys are NOT working on trading Dak to the Browns. In fact, texts with two sources tell me, “Fake news” and “Absolutely not” before this gets any sort of wheels.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram’s Nick Harris completely brushed off the Dak Prescott to Browns trade rumors.
If we dug deep enough, we’d probably find a link between the ‘source” that put out the Dak to Browns rumor and the one that said Condoleezza Rice would interview for the Browns head coach opening in 2018.

The Cowboys remain tight-lipped on the matter because they are occupied with Micah Parsons. The Browns, on the other hand, traded former Steelers and Super Bowl LIX winner with the Eagles, Kenny Pickett, at the start of the free agency. Pickett joined the Browns while the Eagles received a fifth-round pick and QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson.
