Dana White has recently come under fire for his lack of enthusiasm and promotional effort during fight announcements. Fans, media personnel, and even mainstream content creators have remained very vocal about it. Now, a longtime nemesis of White, journalist Ariel Helwani, has thrown his hat in the ring.
Helwani and White have a feud that stretches back to 2016. Back then, the two were on relatively good terms. That was until Helwani leaked the co-main event of UFC 200 involving Brock Lesnar, leading to him being temporarily banned from all UFC events. Since then, Helwani has gone after White several times over the years.
This time, it was prompted by Dana White’s video promoting the fight between Bob Menery and Johnny Manziel on Adin Ross‘ promotion. On The Ariel Helwani Show, the veteran journalist lambasted the UFC CEO for not bringing the same hype and energy when announcing UFC fights.
We want to see the fastball…It feels like the announcements, the demeanor, it’s all 70s. But I believe there’s a 97 in there. I believe that arsenal still exists…Do you know how I know he still has that in him? Because I see a video of him talking about Bob Menery fighting, and there’s more enthusiasm, there’s more fire about this video that I’ve seen regarding any Zuffa boxing or UFC fight that I’ve seen in quite some time.

Helwani has never been afraid of putting the UFC CEO on blast. Be it for White hitting his wife back in 2023, or when the issue of fighter pay comes up, the former ESPN journalist doesn’t shrink. As such, Helwani’s issue here is the same one all UFC fans have about the UFC’s recent fight announcements.
Fans are sick of the UFC boss reading a list of main events off a teleprompter with the same cliched lines. Moreover, the lack of production value and effort cheapens the fight announcements. Consequently, the atmosphere around the fights themselves feel lackluster and much less grand as bouts from yesteryear.
But what makes all this even worse is that White refuses to take accountability. At the post fight press conference for the UFC Seattle card, he was asked about the UFC’s use of AI in their promotional material. The media member brought up the complaints from numerous netizens about the UFC using AI when they should be paying real artists.
Dana White was extremely dismissive of the question, asking the reporter to cut him a break. He said AI was “coming” and that no one should really care if the UFC used it or not. However, given how crude and unpolished one of the key graphics for that card looked, it’s difficult to justify this stance even for a staunch supporter of the UFC and White.
All of this apathy towards trying to improve the UFC’s presentation has definitely not gone unnoticed. In fact, as mentioned above, even mainstream content creators have begun taking shots at Dana White. However, few have been as vocal or as harsh as streamer, Penguinz0.
Popular streamer Penguinz0 also laid into Dana White
A few days following the UFC Seattle card, famous YouTube streamer Charles White aka ‘Penguinz0’, uploaded a video called “I Don’t Like Dana White.” In the near 12-minute video, the streamer laid out every reason that made him dislike the veteran promoter.

The streaming content creator discussed a lot of past controversies surrounding Dana White like fighter pay and the UFC boss forcing his wife to get a C-section. Eventually, he made his way onto the aforementioned comments Dana White made about AI. Penguinz0’s take on why White and the UFC would not move away from AI was very telling of their current promotional landscape.
Expect a lot more AI from Dana White as he starts to recognize more and more how much money he can save by just farting out AI into the UFC programming…He’ll continue to go hog wild with the AI which doesn’t elevate the production or anything. It doesn’t make it better. It does make it worse but it saves Dana White money and that’s the most important thing to Dana White.
Penguinz0 on Dana White and the deteriorating UFC product
While Dana White isn’t solely to blame for the downfall of the UFC’s marketing machine, he is the face of the company’s executive side. Albeit, people close to him have claimed that he doesn’t as much pull in the UFC as he used to. Nonetheless, White’s approach of telling fans to shut up and watch the product has become downright insulting at this point.
This is especially when the product is deteriorating at such a pace that even mainstream content creators are starting to notice. All in all, the UFC needs to overhaul their production immediately. They desperately need to bring back the buzz that previously surrounded their fight announcements.
