The UFC lightweight division is in turmoil since Ilia Topuria claimed the title, creating chaos in an already highly competitive weight class. With numerous elite contenders vying for a title shot, tensions have reached new heights among the division’s most ambitious fighters. Currently, Paddy Pimblett and Arman Tsarukyan are the leading front-runners, sparking a heated rivalry that has escalated dramatically.

Recently, Pimblett faced criticism for potentially earning a title shot despite being ranked only #9 in the highly competitive lightweight division. The fighter acknowledged the criticism but argued that Tsarukyan also has not done enough to deserve the championship opportunity. In response, Tsarukyan took to X, posting a savage reply that mocked Pimblett’s credentials and questioned his legitimacy as a contender.

You’re a nobody, a trash can at most. Daddy Dana fed you a couple senior citizens to build your hype. That’s all you are, hype. I earned everything in my career, nothing was handed to me you bum. Now sit your goofy a** down and wait until Daddy tells you what to do.

Pimblett has often been accused of receiving the “Dana White privilege,” with critics claiming he gets favorable opportunities within the UFC. These accusations intensified after his controversial decision win against Jared Gordon, a fight many fans and analysts believed he clearly lost.

The Scouser silenced some doubters by defeating respected UFC veterans such as Bobby Green and Tony Ferguson in impressive back-to-back performances. However, Green and Ferguson were not young competitors. This is one such criticism that the Armenian star pointed out about the UK fighter.

In his last bout, Paddy Pimblett secured a TKO victory over an aging Michael Chandler to boost his status as a legitimate contender, but skeptics were not impressed. He has also gone face-to-face with lightweight champion Ilia Topuria, a moment that significantly increased fan interest in a potential showdown.

Being a big name in the UFC will also benefit the UK star over Tsarukyan. After all, Pimblett’s long-standing rivalry with Topuria continues to fuel hype, adding extra intrigue and promotional value to his climb toward a title shot.

Paddy Pimblett getting a title shot before Arman Tsarukyan is unfair?

Understanding the huge pay-per-view potential, Ilia Topuria has verbally agreed to fight Paddy Pimblett for his first UFC lightweight title defense. He has dismissed the idea of facing Arman Tsarukyan next, which has sparked rumors that the champion might be avoiding the Armenian. Experts like Dan Hooker believe Topuria was choosing the easier fight as Tsarukyan poses a significant threat to dethrone him.

However, Arman Tsarukyan has not stopped and continues to frequently troll ‘El Matador’ in hopes of securing the next lightweight title shot. He has mocked Topuria’s wrestling skills and even placed a $500K wager to provoke the champion into accepting a future fight. Recently, UFC veteran Kamaru Usman weighed in on the lightweight division’s situation, offering his perspective on the ongoing title shot drama.

It’s not Paddy’s fault. Paddy has done a great job with the opposition he’s been given to even put himself in this conversation. But if we look at the lightweight rankings…If you’re not going to do Arman Tsarukyan or you’re not going to do Justin Gaethje, you’ve got Dan Hooker there, Mateusz Gamrot, Beneil Dariush in front of Paddy Pimblett. So to skip all of these guys just to give him a title shot, that kind of spits in the face of the merit of the best fights the next best guy.

The UFC has yet to officially announce the next lightweight title fight, leaving fans eagerly speculating about the champion’s potential opponent. Recently, UFC Hall of Famer Chael Sonnen claimed insider information suggesting that Ilia Topuria could face Justin Gaethje for his next defense. As such, fans are curious to see whether this rumor carries any real substance or is simply another piece of fight speculation.
