Believe it or not, Republican candidate Donald Trump was once heavily involved in the world of wrestling. In 2007, Trump began a rivalry with then-WWE chairman Vince McMahon, termed the “Battle of the Billionaires.” During the leadup to WrestleMania 23, however, a few words said by Trump led to McMahon getting legitimately furious. So, what exactly happened?
While speaking on the K100 w/Konnan & Disco podcast, Armando Estrada recounted a hilarious story involving the two billionaires. Estrada revealed that McMahon and Trump took their own limousines from the airport to attend a press conference. Trump’s limousine was apparently bigger than McMahon’s, which the former pointed out. As such, Vinnie Mac got so furious that he ordered his driver to reach the location earlier than Trump.
For those unversed, Estrada managed the late Umaga, who represented McMahon in his battle against Trump. At WrestleMania, Umaga lost to Trump’s representative, Bobby Lashley. As a result, McMahon had to shave his head due to the pre-decided stipulation for the match. Furthermore, Trump ate a stunner from special guest referee Stone Cold Steve Austin following the bout.
Trump’s relationship with WWE dates back to the late 1980s. In fact, the Trump Plaza hosted back-to-back WrestleMania’s during that period. For his contributions to the company, Vince McMahon inducted his good friend into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2013. Just days ago, Donald Trump reminisced about his time in the business during an appearance on The Undertaker‘s podcast.
Wrestling personalities who have endorsed Donald Trump ahead of presidential elections
As mentioned, Donald Trump has several connections to the wrestling industry. Ahead of the upcoming elections, multiple WWE legends have publicly backed the Republican candidate to become president once again. Most notably, The Undertaker and Kane, who collaborated with Trump in a viral TikTok.
Undertaker bizarrely pitched a six-man tag team match, pitting himself, Kane, and Trump against Kamala Harris, Dave Bautista, and Tim Walz. Bautista had endorsed Harris and launched a scathing rant on Trump by tearing into his masculinity. Ryback supported Undertaker, claiming that anyone who did not vote for Trump was “clueless.”
However, the likes of Mick Foley and Jim Cornette did not take too kindly to the video. The latter believed that the Brothers of Destruction tarnished their reputations by joining forces with Trump. Meanwhile, Foley took a shot at the former POTUS after he asked Undertaker whether wrestling actually hurts. The hardcore legend then proceeded to release a clip of his own, explaining why citizens should not vote for Trump.
