Liverpool was up against Fulham on Saturday night as goals from Diogo Jota and Cody Gakpo were unable to inspire the club to victory. Even though many expected the league leaders to comfortably claim all three points, the hosts needed a sublime finish from Jota to salvage a point.
Besides the fact that Liverpool almost ‘lost’ a game for just the second time this season, Andrew Robertson made headlines for a poor challenge and subsequent red card. Only 17 minutes had passed when Liverpool was forced to go down to ten men.
Robertson’s heavy touch while intercepting a pass played Harry Wilson through on goal to release a pass to his teammate. In a moment of desperation, the left back brought down his player. Even though Raul Jimenez failed to convert the chance, the referee swiftly showed red to the defender.

While many on social media criticized the player for his ‘poor’ decision making, manager Arne Slot took Robertson’s side.
The 2-2 draw means that Liverpool now has 36 points on the board and will need to keep up its form to not fall behind Chelsea.
Diogo Jota stunner salvages point for Reds
The game against Fulham took an unexpected turn when Andreas Pereira opened the scoring for the visitors in the 11th minute. The Brazilian scored an incredibly acrobatic effort at the far post, minutes before which Robertson saw red.
Despite being a man down, Mohamed Salah set up Cody Gakpo at the far post for the equalizer in the early minutes of the second half. The forward’s diving header pulled one back for the hosts.

However, Fulham was in no mood to back down, as Rodrigo Muniz put his side back in the lead through an unbelievable flick in front of goal. Risked with the club’s first defeat since September against Nottingham Forest, Diogo Jota rose to the occasion to save the day.
Jota’s moment of brilliance in the 86th minute gave the Reds a lifeline. Picking up the ball near the edge of the penalty area from a Darwin Nunez pass, the Portuguese sent his marker the wrong way with an incredible bit of skill. Hanging on to his goal, Liverpool ended the game 2-2. With the result, rivals Chelsea find themselves just five points behind the Reds.
