Manchester United played out a 2-2 draw against Liverpool, much to everyone’s surprise. What was deemed as a challenging battle for United saw them holding their own. In fact, United could have won the battle too had it not been for Harry Maguire’s miss in the last minute. There were mixed reactions about the way the Liverpool players performed.

One of the players who received some serious flak was Trent Alexander-Arnold. He was left at the receiving end of some serious criticism from the fans and experts alike. More than his ordinary outing against Manchester United, it was his links with Real Madrid that were tugged. Many believed that his potential move to Madrid might have left him distracted. Arne Slot, however, thinks otherwise.

I don’t believe in those things. I think nine out of 10 people will tell you that it affected him, but I’m one of the 10 that tells you that I don’t think that affected him. What affected him is that he had to play Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot, two starters for Portugal, great, great, great players. We have a fantastic player here with Diogo Jota, and he’s not even playing for Portugal. So that tells you how much quality United has.

Arne Slot said in the post-match press conference

Manchester United opened the scoring through a phenomenal strike from Lisandro Martinez. However, a gun hit from Cody Gakpo restored parity. A sloppily handled situation inside the box saw Matthijs de Ligt handling the ball, and the consequent penalty was scored by Mohamed Salah. However, much to the surprise of Liverpool, Amad Diallo found the equalizer as the league leaders dropped crucial points.

Apart from Liverpool, Arsenal’s interest in the 24-year-old winger is also overwhelming. Given the fact that the Gunners are still not sure when Bukayo Saka will return, they would be hoping to bring in more reinforcements. With the Premier League being a two-horse race for the time being, as Arsenal are six points adrift of Liverpool, the second half of the league is going to be a thrilling one for both the teams.
