Arsenal have pushed reigning Premier League champions Manchester City down to the wire for the last two seasons. Even though City boast the likes of Pep Guardiola, Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden in their squad, Mikel Arteta has worked his magic to give his side a fighting chance against the Cityzens.
As the 2024/25 League season nears its start, Premier League legend Jamie Carragher has shared his take on who will come out on top. Even though his prediction was just as expected, Carragher also added what Arsenal may need a special player if they are to finally snatch the title from City.
I think Arsenal are one attacking player short. They've got Bukayo Saka but they need one more who's pretty special to take over from Manchester City.Jamie Carragher told FourFourTwo
The former Liverpool man added that City’s attacking department consisting of De Bruyne, Foden & Haaland is ‘simply better’ than that of Arsenal’s.
Arsenal face significant last-minute challenge to sign Euro 2024 hero
Following an impressive campaign with Spain at UEFA Euro 2024, Mikel Merino has been linked with several top clubs. The 28-year-old managed to catch the eye of Mikel Arteta, and the club have been on his tail ever since. With his move to the Arsenal catching up pace in recent weeks, the Gunners have been hanged a significant challenge to finalize proceedings.
It is understood that Real Sociedad are currently in a difficult position, with the imminent departure of both Martin Zubimendi and Merino. As per reports, club President Jokin Aperribay has cut short his vacation to find a solution to the situation. The club see it necessary that at least one of the two Spaniards stay at the club.
With Liverpool in advanced talks with Zubimendi, Arsenal stand the risk of missing out on their man. Even though Real Sociedad have offered Merino a deal which would make him the highest paid player at the club, it may still be too late. Their offer is significantly lower than what Arsenal are ready to offer for the European champion.
