Arsenal and Newcastle United are planning to sign Mohammed Kudus in the January transfer window of 2025. The latest report from the Mirror states that both Mikel Arteta and Eddie Howe are huge fans of the Ghanaian attacking player. They want to add him to their respective sides, as the player has been in great form since his move to West Ham United.
West Ham signed Kudus in the summer transfer window of 2023 for a fee of £38 million. He burst onto the scene with his spectacular displays at Ajax. Since his move from Eredivisie to the Premier League, he has gone on from strength to strength, having scored 16 goals and providing eight assists in the 57 matches played so far across all competitions for West Ham.
Kudus can play in a number of positions, including attacking midfield, as a right winger, and as a forward. This versatility has made him dearer to many clubs. The Magpies and the Gunners feel that he will be a valuable asset to their club. Kudus can dribble through tight spaces, which is extremely crucial for any attacking player to break tight defenses.
Kudus also has a good eye for goal, especially with his long-range shooting. Therefore, the West Ham star is a hot commodity in the upcoming transfer window. His contract with West Ham United ends in the summer of 2028, but that does not mean that the Hammers won’t sell him if they get an appropriate price for their star player.
With a club like Arsenal showing interest, Kudus might take it as an opportunity to take the next big leap in his career. The Gunners have been struggling for goals, as seen by their recent goalless draw against Everton at home. Arteta also wants a backup for Bukayo Saka, and hence Kudus has emerged as a possible target for him. The Hammers are demanding £90 million to sell their prized asset.
Why does Newcastle United also want Mohammed Kudus?
The Magpies have thrown in the challenge to Mikel Arteta’s side and are ready to compete with them to sign the talented player. Howe is a massive admirer of Kudus, but the financial complexities in their club could cause trouble during their preparations to sign him. Newcastle would need to sell some players in January to raise funds and facilitate the signing of Kudus.
They have already sold Elliot Anderson (£35m) and Yankuba Minteh (£30m) in the summer transfer window. However, those sales are not enough for them to sign the West Ham star. Kudus has a release clause of £85 million, which will be valid in the summer.
Kudus has played 12 games so far across all competitions this season and has scored two goals and provided two assists. Meanwhile, coming to the standings, the Gunners are third in the Premier League points table with 30 points in 16 games, while Newcastle are 12th with 23 points.
