Arsenal Football Club aren’t here to mess around. The Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) on last night, announced several awards for the past season, including the Young Player of the Year as well as the Player of the Year. As the Team of the Year was announced, Arsenal fans were thrilled to learn that five players made it to the final list.
Out of the ‘best’ XI stars, a little under half played for Mikel Arteta last season. Despite finishing second, the Gunners put on a show in the League, giving Manchester City a run for their money. To name the five Arsenal stars that made it to the best XI, goalkeeper David Raya took first spot. The Spaniard played a huge role in between the sticks as Arsenal let in just 29 goals from 38 games.
Raya’s defensive compatriots Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba also made it to the list. Both the Brazilian and the Frenchman were impeccable as Arsenal missed out on the League title by just two points.
Midfield duo Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice were also voted into the best team from the 2023/24 season. A quick look at their 91 goals scored is testament to their brilliance on the pitch.
Fans react as Arsenal players ‘dominate’ PFA Team of the Year
Arsenal are very much on their way to becoming one of, if not the best team in the Premier League. The Gunners have started off strong with a win against Wolves this season, but were also dominant throughout the previous campaign. A fan commented that the entire starting XI will be made up of Arsenal players when the TOTY is announced at the end of next season.
Another claimed that Arteta’s project will soon find result and that the Gunners will claim the Premier League this season. Many however, were frustrated that neither Ben White not main man Bukayo Saka made it to the list. The fact that Arsenal are now the club with the most players voted into the PFA TOTY was an indicator of good things to come.
Even though criticism still remains that the club have failed to bring home the League title, Arteta’s project would sooner or later find result. After matchday 1, the club are currently second in the League standings. They take on Aston Villa on the 24th of August but face the daunting challenge of taking on both Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City in the space of their next four games.
