Riccardo Calafiori has been on Arsenal’s radar for quite some time. The Serie A defender plies his trade for Bologna and has been an elemental part of their defense in the 2023/24 season. After an impeccable display at the Euros in Germany, several clubs have expressed their interest in signing the player, with Arsenal being the most interested.
Despite several rumors circulating on social media, there has been no finality regarding the player’s move to the Premier League. Of all sources, fans were shocked to learn that his ex-girlfriend ended up revealing the move in a post that publicized their break-up. In the viral post, Calafiori’s ex-girlfriend announced their split and also ‘wished him the best as he joins Arsenal‘.
That being said, there have been rumors that the post has been posted from an account pretending to be his partner as well. The 22-year-old is a Arsenal fan and will be a remarkable addition to a back line that already features William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes and Ben White.
Saliba was undoubtedly one of the best defenders at UEFA Euro 2024 despite France being knocked out in the semi-final against eventual champions Spain.
Riccardo Calafiori all set to join boyhood club Arsenal
After weeks of anticipation, Arsenal fans finally have their man as per some reports. Riccardo Calafiori is close to joining the club as a Gunner after days of negotiations finally come to an end. Popular transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed in an exclusive interview that the Premier League club have finally made a breakthrough with Bologna on a possible fee for the defender.
At just 22 years of age, Arsenal have all but claimed the centre-back for €40 million with €5 million to be paid as add-ons and sell-on clause. Despite the deal being in its final stages, one thing remains to be done. As per Fabrizio, Calafiori’s current and former clubs Bologna and Basel are yet to agree on the sell-on payment terms. It is reported that the clubs are negotiating for a 50% split on the same.
The youngster turned heads at the Euros as he helped his side stay afloat against Albania and Croatia in the group stages. Despite being knocked out in the group stages, Calafiori’s composure and ability on the ball caught the attention of fans and clubs across the globe. Arsenal fans believe that his addition to the squad will greatly help Mikel Arteta‘s side in their pursuit of the Premier League.
