In Short
  • Aryna Sabalenka playfully asked Andy Roddick to question her coach Jason Stacy about his bald head.
  • Stacy humorously defended his bald look, stating "bald is beautiful."
  • Sabalenka has achieved significant success since adding Stacy to her team in 2018, including four Grand Slam titles.

Aryna Sabalenka‘s performance coach, Jason Stacy, sat for an interview on the Served podcast and discussed many things about his protegee. But before his interview, Sabalenka had playfully requested Andy Roddick and his team to ask Stacy why he prefers to remain bald.

Along with serious work, Sabalenka also jokes around with Stacy and often uses his bald head to write a message or draw something that helps her stay focused during the matches. What the World No.1 doesn’t understand is why Stacy doesn’t let his hair grow back. So when Roddick announced that Stacy would be on his podcast, here’s what Sabalenka dropped in the comment section:

I have a very special question. Why don’t he let his hair grow? So stylish. Please ask him that. I think he should consider that.

Stacy joked that he likes his appearance and said even her coach Anton Dubrov has a “big circle on the back“.

And she keeps trying to make me just let my hair grow out. But it’s like, you know what? Bald is beautiful, baby. So, you know, I’m just I’m just just sexy the way it is, you know […] See all this space there? Yeah, it’s definitely I was definitely very getting thin, and I just, you know, one day I shaved it years ago, and I’m like, yeah. Took me some time to get used to, but I was like, ‘Ah, whatever’.

Sabalenka added Stacy to her team back in 2018, and while working with him, she reached the top of the rankings table as well as won her four Grand Slam singles titles. She also recently became the fifth woman to complete the Sunshine Double.

Aryna Sabalenka’s coach Jason Stacy on energy management for the European clay swing

Last year, by the time Aryna Sabalenka reached the French Open final, she was “so, so exhausted,” and it affected her ability to control her emotions and stay focused, said Jason Stacy during the Served podcast. In the final, Sabalenka squandered a set lead and lost the match to Coco Gauff. The team, as well as Sabalenka, has learned the lesson.

So it was really it was a good lesson for all of us to realize like, okay, we should just accept the fact and expect that if we show up somewhere, we’re going to get to the final and start to understand that we need to manage that as far as schedule goes, as far as all the things we do outside of the court. How she’s managing all her obligations, like with sponsors and whatnot.

Sabalenka is gearing up for the clay swing and is set to start her campaign at the Stuttgart Open, where she is a four-time finalist, also reaching the title clash last year. It was Jelena Ostapenko who denied her the win. In the tournament back in 2021, Ash Barty beat her in the final. Iga Swiatek was her opponent in the title clashes of the 2023 and 2024 Stuttgart finals.

Last year, she played three finals on clay, losing in Stuttgart and the French Open and winning at the Madrid Open. In Madrid, she beat Gauff.

This year, Sabalenka has already lifted three titles from four finals. After defending her Brisbane International title, she lost the Australian Open final to Elena Rybakina. The 27-year-old then went on to skip both the two WTA 1000 events in the Middle East Swing. In the two Sunshine Double events, Sabalenka defeated Rybakina in the Indian Wells final, while in Miami, she went past Gauff. Sabalenka has so far clinched three clay-court titles.
