Though Aryna Sabalenka has reached seven finals and lifted three titles, Grand Slam trophies have eluded her so far this season. She reached the finals of both the Australian Open and the French Open, losing both to Madison Keys and Coco Gauff, respectively.

Then at Wimbledon, she once again failed to progress beyond the semifinals. Eventual runner-up Amanda Anisimova knocked her out in the last four in three sets. Sabalenka recently published a vlog on her YouTube channel, and there she talked about what she finds the most annoying thing about being a professional athlete.

But it’s so f*****g annoying about being an athlete, honestly. All your life depends on your result. You win, and you are the happiest person that you can be. You just enjoy, life feels so good. But when you lose, it’s just tough to enjoy. I am going to be there on the beach thinking it’s so beautiful, but I lost. I am such a loser. I hate myself. It’s like you are constantly living your life in these ups and downs.

Sabalenka was scheduled to play the Canadian Open, which starts on July 27. But she has decided to skip the WTA 1000 event and start her campaign on the North American hard-court swing at the Cincinnati Masters, where she will be aiming to defend her title.

Her next destination will be New York City for the last Major of the season- the US Open. Sabalenka will enter Flushing Meadows as the defending champion. She lost to home favorite Gauff in 2023, but last year, she was successful in defeating another home favorite, Jessica Pegula.

The three titles that she lifted this year are- Brisbane International, Miami Open (her first Sunshine Doubles singles title), and the Madrid Open (her third clay-court title following the 2022 and 2023 Madrid Opens). Apart from the Australian and the French Open finals, Sabalenka suffered defeats in the finals of Indian Wells and the Stuttgart Open. She has once again failed to lift a grass-court title.

Aryna Sabalenka explains the importance of having a good team

Aryna Sabalenka has often criticized some members she used to have in her team when she was a newcomer. She believes she has wasted a lot of her time with the wrong team, whom she has blamed for her inconsistent performances earlier in her career. So much so, that during a press conference in this year’s French Open, she even urged them to “quit” to “save other players“.

At present, Sabalenka’s team consists of coach Anton Dubrov, who used to be her hitting partner. Jason Stacy is her fitness coach, while Andrei Vasilevski is her hitting partner. Helen Murawska is her physiotherapist.

Sabalenka, however, has often taken playful jibes at them, sarcastically blaming them for her defeats. But this team is like a family for the three-time Grand Slam champion.

Loyalty, connection, and character are super important to me. I need to trust the person, feel safe around them, and know that there’s not going to be any leak of information or anything like that. I call my team a family. It’s important to bring good people into the family.

Aryna Sabalenka told Cosmopolitan

In her latest vlog on YouTube, the 27-year-old joked that everyone in her team sticks together, which is almost annoying. She called Stacy a “boring” person plus a “babysitter“.

Sabalenka then said the most annoying thing about Dubrov is that he doesn’t like gossip and pulled Vasilevski’s legs, saying, “he barely makes any shots” and needs an explanation. Murawska, who takes care of Sabalenka’s “big, long, and beautiful body,” is “cool and fun“.
