Aryna Sabalenka says US Open victory is special for her
Aryna Sabalenka was the finalist in last year’s US Open where she failed to overcome Coco Gauff. Although Sabalenka was defeated that year, a few months later, she became the Australian Open champion for the second time after an easy win over Qinwen Zheng.
Sabalenka also registered her second consecutive win over Jessica Pegula, having won the Cincinnati Masters before arriving at the US Open. After the match, Sabalenka said that despite her heartbreaking defeats in the past at the US Open, she always dreamed of holding the trophy.
I was always hoping that one day I'll be able to hold this beautiful trophy. It's always been my dream. That's why it's very special, because no matter what, every time I was coming back stronger, and I was learning, I never gave up on this dream, and yeah, you know, it means a lot.Aryna Sabalenka said at the press conference
Sabalenka is 27-1 in the last four Grand Slams on hard courts. She also became the first player to win both hard court Grand Slam finals in a year since Angelique Kerber, who achieved this feat in 2016.
