Aryna Sabalenka has done it once again! On Thursday (January 29), the Belarusian registered a convincing 6-2, 6-3 victory over Elina Svitolina to progress to the Australian Open final for the fourth consecutive time.
The two-time Australian Open singles champion will clash with Elena Rybakina in the title clash. It was back in 2023 that Sabalenka lifted her career’s first Grand Slam singles title by battling past the Kazakh ace. She defended her crown the following year against Qinwen Zheng but was denied the three-peat by Madison Keys last year.
Sabalenka, right after winning the last point of the match, swore, “F**k you” under her breath to celebrate her win. The two did not shake hands because of the Ukrainian players’ no-handshake stance.

This woman has reached the final of every single Grand Slam played on a hard court since Australian Open 2023.
That’s SEVEN straight hard court finals.
What a player. 🐅

The win helped Sabalenka improve her head-to-head record over the World No.12 to 6-1. Svitolina will be back in the top 10 on the rankings table thanks to her run to the semifinals. Before her exit, Svitolina dismantled two-time Grand Slam singles champion Coco Gauff in the quarterfinals.
The defeat also ended Svitolina’s 10-match winning streak, as prior to arriving in Melbourne, the 19-time singles titlist beat Wang Xinyu in the ASB Classic. Sabalenka also already has a title to her name this year. She defended her Brisbane International crown by cruising past Marta Kostyuk.
The four-time Grand Slam singles champion will also be playing in her seventh consecutive hardcourt Major final. She suffered just two defeats in those matches: to Keys in last year’s Melbourne Slam and to Gauff in the 2023 US Open final.
Elina Svitolina lauds Aryna Sabalenka after Australian Open exit
Elina Svitolina admitted that she was disappointed she couldn’t go far. While analyzing her match at the press conference, she gave an honest assessment of Aryna Sabalenka‘s level and what has made her a formidable force.

To be fair, I thought I could return as well today as in previous days when I returned very well. On the other hand, I don’t think my serve was good either. I think I was returning well, but then her second serve became incredible, there was no way. She also returned very well, very fast; she was flawless with her second shot after the serve. For all these reasons, she is the World No.1.
Sabalenka finished the 2025 season with four titles from nine finals. Three of them were Big Titles she won at the Madrid Open, Miami Open, and the US Open. Apart from the two hardcourt Majors, the 27-year-old also made the final of the French Open but failed to go past Coco Gauff.
I knew what to expect from this match; my level had been good, but she feels very comfortable on these courts. She has won here a couple of times, so she shows that confidence every time she returns. I thought some things might work for me tonight, but in reality, they didn’t work, or worked less than I expected. I wish I could have pressured her a bit more, but she had answers for everything. I watched a couple of her early-round matches; she was a different player there, but today she was brilliant.
Elina Svitolina added
Against her final opponent, Elena Rybakina, Sabalenka holds an 8-6 head-to-head edge. But the 2022 Wimbledon registered the win when they met the last time, in the title match of last year’s WTA Finals.
This is the third time the two will face in Grand Slam events following their meetings in the 2023 Australian Open final and the 2021 Wimbledon fourth round. En route to the final, Rybakina also ended World No.2 Iga Swiatek‘s run in the quarterfinals.
