Aryna Sabalenka successfully defended her US Open title with a straight-set 6-3, 7-6 win over Amanda Anisimova. The Belarusian finally put to bed her Grand Slam undoings this year with a sweet end in New York as she captured her fourth Grand Slam title.

Anisimova made her second successive Grand Slam final. Despite improving her results from the double bagel she recieved from Iga Swiatek in the Wimbledon final, the American couldn’t get into the match at all.

Sabalenka has ended an 11-year drought of a US Open title defense. The last one to do that was Serena Williams in 2014.

The top seed had lost two Grand Slam finals earlier on in this season. She saw her Australian Open title defense snapped by Madison Keys before a heartbreaking Roland Garros final defeat to Coco Gauff.

Aryna Sabalenka avoids unwanted history

World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka has captured the US Open title, her second in a row and her fourth Grand Slam overall. By doing so, she avoided the unwanted history of finishing the year with the most Slam match wins without a trophy. Instead, she added another major milestone to her career.

This marked her third straight US Open final, a streak not seen since Serena Williams between 2012 and 2014. Unlike last year, when she fell to Coco Gauff, Sabalenka delivered in the final. She defeated Amanda Anisimova, who had beaten her at Wimbledon earlier in the summer.

The win was especially meaningful after her tough exit at Wimbledon. Sabalenka regrouped and built momentum on the hard courts in New York. Her victory over Jessica Pegula in the semifinals set the stage for a confident and composed performance in the championship match.

With this triumph, Sabalenka capped off one of the strongest Grand Slam seasons in recent memory. She reached three finals and one semifinal, showcasing remarkable consistency. This time, however, she ended the year with a title in hand rather than an unwanted record.

Aryna Sabalenka shares wonderful words for boyfriend

US Weekly reported on June 30 that Aryna Sabalenka praised the support of her new partner, Georgios Frangulis. She spoke openly about how much his presence has meant to her. The world No. 1 said his encouragement has helped her both on and off the court.

His support means so much to me. Traveling is hard on most people, athletes or not. The time changes, the changes in eating habits and lack of hydration makes feeling your best difficult.

Earlier this year, the Belarusian experienced the loss of her former partner, Konstantin Koltsov. He died by suicide in March 2024. She later explained that they were no longer together at the time of his passing. The tragedy was a difficult chapter in her personal life.

Sabalenka has since confirmed her relationship with Frangulis, a Brazilian entrepreneur. He is the founder of Oakberry, an international açaí company valued in the millions. The couple has been seen together at several tournaments, where he often supports her from the stands.

Their bond became more visible during last summer’s Cincinnati Open. After her victory, Sabalenka’s post-match comments hinted at her new romance. She later clarified the relationship, noting that Frangulis has been a steady source of strength.
