Aryna Sabalenka will be back on court after over two weeks following her successful run at the US Open where the Belarusian secured a thrilling win over home favorite Jessica Pegula. Sabalenka will now be playing at the China Open and ahead of her first-round match, she talked about the two weeks she spent off the court.

Sabalenka will be the top seed in Beijing after World No. 1 and defending champion Iga Swiatek pulled out of the tournament due to personal matters. The World No. 2 was able to reach the quarterfinals and lost to Elena Rybakina when the event was held in 2023, and she is looking forward to adding another title on the WTA Tour this season.

I'm super happy to be back on the court, competing. I've kind of like missing playing… I was like two weeks, two-three weeks (laughs)… I wasn't missing at all. No, but I had a great time after the US Open, and I had a great preparation. I spent some time with my family, and it makes me feel much better and recharged. So yeah, I am ready…I am ready to play some more tennis.

Sabalenka has so far won three titles in the season, with two of them being the Grand Slams she won at the Australian Open and the US Open. She can end the year by being the top player in the rankings if she takes home the China Open title.

I remember Aryna Sabalenka telling me in an interview, was it two years ago, that she would think of Iga during practice, during fitness sessions, because she was so sick of losing against her on clay and I love that.
Alize Lim said on the Tennis Channel Inside-In podcast

Swiatek leads 8-4 in their head-to-head meetings, but it was Sabalenka who won their last meeting in the 2024 Cincinnati Open semifinal. They met two more times this year, in the Rome Open and Madrid Open finals, where the five-time Grand Slam champion won both matches.

While Sabalenka emerged victorious in two Grand Slams this season, Swiatek was able to win the French Open, an Olympic bronze medal, and three more titles on the WTA Tour.
