Belarusian tennis ace and World No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka is known for her prowess on the tennis court. The 26-year-old has one of the fastest forehands on the WTA tour. However, the fact that she is better in that regard than a few male players, including Jannik Sinner, Novak Djokovic, and Carlos Alcaraz, has come as a surprise for Sabalenka.

Sabalenka’s average forehand speed stood at 80 mph while Alcaraz, Sinner, and Djokovic were clocked at 79 mph, 78 mph, and 76 mph respectively. After her fourth-round win at the 2024 US Open, the Belarusian admitted that she found that stat interesting.

I saw my stats on my forehand and I actually can’t believe it’s that fast. It felt even kind of uncomfortable being at the top and even hitting harder than guys. That’s a really interesting stat.
Aryna Sabalenka said during her on-court interview

The Belarusian had also outpaced Sinner in the average forehand speed for the first round at the 2024 Roland Garros.

With this, Sabalenka became the first woman to reach four consecutive quarterfinals at the US Open since 2016. The last player to do it was Serena Williams, who did it six times in a row between 2011 and 2016. The Belarusian will now be hoping to convert this incredible performance into a title win, which she could not do last year.

Sabalenka entered the US Open in high spirits after clinching her first Cincinnati Open title. She has dropped only one set en route to the quarterfinals in New York and will be focused on maintaining that form till the end. She is set to face either Qinwen Zheng or Donna Vekic.
