Aryna Sabalenka had the perfect answer for the reporter when asked about how she dealt with big expectations. The Belarusian returned to action after missing out on Wimbledon and the Olympics and hoped to return to the form she lacked the past two-quarters of the season.
The Belarusian is currently WTA No.3 and has a lot of expectations riding on her. She is often met with big expectations before a tournament, like the Canadian Open, where she will play as the second seed. Ahead of her first match there, she was caught up in an interview with the Toronto Press.
The reporter had asked her how she dealt with the big expectations around her. He said that the anticipation is massive on her, given her good form, and asked her how she keeps up with that and still focuses on her game. Sabalenka had a simple yet savage answer for the reporter.
I mean, that's not my expectation, that's someone else’s expectation. I guess I'm willing not to think about that. I'm just trying to focus on myself.Aryna Sabalenka said via Toronto Press
Furthermore, Sabalenka said that she believes in herself to do well in the tournament and will know if she can do well or not once on the court. The Belarusian will get a bye in the first round of the Canadian Open and play in the second round against an opponent yet to be decided.

Aryna Sabalenka failed to make a good return at the Citi Open
Aryna Sabalenka returned to action at the Citi Open. After the Paris Olympics, the tour headed back to the hard courts to begin the pre-season for the upcoming US Open. She was the top seed at the Citi Open and was a clear favorite to win the tournament.
However, Sabalenka got off to a shaky start against Kamilla Rakhimova before finding her way back against compatriot Victoria Azarenka. Unfortunately, she faced a lot of challenges in the semi-final against Marie Bouzkova.
She fought back from a set down but lost track and failed to bounce back in the third set. The match was extremely important for her to make it to the final of her returning tournament. However, she failed despite being within touching distance. Turns out, her best friend Paula Badosa succeeded in making her mark on the other side of the draw and won the Citi Open.
Sabalenka is the second seed at the Canadian Open and will try to win a Masters title there. The Belarusian has a great track record on hard courts and can pose a huge challenge to the opponents in this tournament.
