Aryna Sabalenka couldn’t celebrate much in the locker room after her US Open win because of Donald Trump‘s visit to Arthur Ashe Stadium the following day for the men’s final between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner. Sabalenka was asked to celebrate somewhere else by the security officials before they went on to check everything.
Sabalenka defeated home favorite Amanda Anisimova in straight sets to defend her title as well as clinch her fourth trophy of the season after wins in Brisbane, Miami, and Madrid. The Belarusian suffered a great deal of disappointment when she lost to Madison Keys and Coco Gauff in the finals of the Australian Open and French Open, respectively, this year.
But she avoided making the same mistakes when she entered the final at Flushing Meadows. After the final, everyone, including Sabalenka, was told to leave the stadium because of heightened security measures. Former WTA player Andrea Petkovic revealed during the Becker Petkovic podcast what exactly happened on that day.
Everyone was completely checked. We were only allowed to come to the facility with a mobile phone and had to be there at nine o’clock in the morning.
Videos of Sabalenka’s champagne war with her team emerged on social media. Sabalenka also brought champagne to the press conference and offered it to the reporters.
These were the safety precautions. Also, the day before, at ten o’clock, Saturday, so before the men’s final, everyone had to leave the facility because the Secret Service went through to check everything. Aryna Sabalenka was still in the locker room celebrating with her team, and she was then practically kicked out to continue celebrating elsewhere.
Andrea Petkovic added
The win helped Sabalenka become the first woman since Serena Williams (2014) to defend the US Open title. Defending the title also helped the 27-year-old maintain her position at the top of the rankings.
At present, Sabalenka is maintaining a healthy lead on the rankings table with 11,225 points, while second-ranked Iga Swiatek has 7,933 and third-ranked Gauff has 7,874. She leads the Pole by 3,292 points.
Aryna Sabalenka on the Battle of the Sexes against Nick Kyrgios
Aryna Sabalenka will be locking horns with Nick Kyrgios in the Battle of the Sexes. The date and venue of the same are not yet decided, but reports have emerged that it will be held in Hong Kong before the Australian Open next year.

Sabalenka, after her US Open win, was a guest on the Jay Shetty Podcast and was asked about the Battle of the Sexes. She joked that she would try to put so much pressure on him that the only choice left for Kyrgios would be to withdraw from the event.
Yeah, since we’re fighting for equal prize money… I believe that’s the reason, no? No, mostly just, I think it’s fun, and it’s cool to see, and it’s interesting for me to play against the man, and I’m ready to kick his…we’re allowed to use this, kick his a**, right? I’m putting a lot of pressure on him right now. So, I hope he’s going to just withdraw from feeling all of the pressure.
Kyrgios has so far featured in just four singles events this season, including the Miami Open, where he registered his first win of the season. Since his Miami Open exit, Kyrgios has not yet played a singles match, but paired up with Gael Monfils for doubles at the Citi Open. They suffered a first-round exit.
Although it’s uncertain what Kyrgios’ next event will be, Sabalenka will next be participating at the China Open. Last year, she lost to Karolina Muchova in the quarterfinals.
