Gauff took the early ascendancy in the semifinals match after leading 5-0 in the first set. The American outplayed her opponent in every aspect of the game. She continued with the excellent display in the second set, leading 4-2, but several mistakes allowed Sabalenka back into the game. With confidence, Sabalenka won the set forcing the match to a deciding set.
Sabalenka headed into the third set with all the momentum. She led 4-1 within a few minutes and was looking to be heading to victory. However, she began to make mistakes in her game, forcing Gauff to level 4-4. The World No. 2 looked angry with herself for doing so and poured the rage on a ball girl for delaying bringing fresh balls immediately.
The incident was picked by a fan on social media, who was displeased with Sabalenka’s rude behavior towards the ball girl.
“Very rude behaviour from Sabalenka towards the ball kids. She got booed for it and deservedly so. Waiting to see if the tennis media will pick it up or not. They’d do it if it was Qinwen,” one user wrote on X.
