Aryna Sabalenka is enjoying a well-deserved vacation in the Maldives following an excellent season in which she ended as the World No.1 for the second consecutive season. The Belarusian star, who has won four Grand Slams in her career has now revealed her biggest achievement in her professional tennis career.
Sabalenka ended her season at the WTA Finals in Riyadh, where she reached the championship match. She won all her round robin stage matches, including against top opponents like Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff. But in the final against Elena Rybakina, she fell to the Kazakhstani in straight sets on the court.
The loss made her cry during the post-match ceremony. However, the World No.1 has had an excellent 2025 season. She won four titles and got to nine tour-level finals, more than any player in the women’s circuit. It was only twice this year that she failed to reach the quarter-finals of a tournament and that was in Dubai and Qatar.
This year, Sabalenka won the Brisbane International in January, then lifted the Miami Open title in March after losing two finals. Her third title came at the Madrid Open, where she overcame Gauff in three sets. She then went on to earn her final crown at the US Open after losing two Grand Slam finals in Paris and London, respectively.
With the season over and players taking a break from the sport, Sabalenka has her verdict on the most cherished achievement of her career so far. The 27-year-old revealed to Vogue Arabia that winning the Australian Open and US Open twice, respectively, has been the major highlight of her career:
I would have to say winning my four Grand Slams. To win both the Australian Open and the US Open twice is definitely a highlight. I am also so proud to have stayed world number one for a full year. It is an accomplishment I’ve always dreamt of, and to see it come true is humbling for me.
Sabalenka won her first Grand Slam at the 2023 Australian Open and needed to wait another year to defend the title after beating Qinwen Zheng. She claimed her third major crown at the US Open in 2024 and then defended it last September. The year-end No.1 is yet to win a Slam on grass or clay, with all her major crowns coming on hard court.
Aryna Sabalenka admits she never intended to play tennis before being introduced to it by accident
Aryna Sabalenka has always been open about her love for her father. Despite enjoying a more remarkable success than her father Sergey, who was a former ice hockey player, she has never stopped talking about him. He suddenly died in November 2019 at the age of only 43, when she was just 21.

During the aforementioned interview, the 27-year-old revealed that she would have ended up being an ice hockey player like her dad as she found tennis by accident. She added that she only decided to try playing tennis during a tour with her dad and immediately fell in love with the sport:
Believe it or not, I found tennis by accident. One day, I was driving around with my dad, and we passed some tennis courts, so we got out of the car and I decided to try it. I immediately fell in love with the sport, and it has been a part of my life ever since.
Sabalenka is fast approaching 500 career wins on tour. She has won 21 tour-level titles in her career and has earned over $45 million in prize money. The World No.1 will be hoping to continue with her great form on the court next season, despite the expected challenge from her arch-rival, Iga Swiatek.
