Aryna Sabalenka returns to the court at Indian Wells after going through a few disappointing matches in recent tournaments. The World No.1 has won just one title this season in four tournaments. She’s now seeking to add to the tally at the California desert and perhaps her first Indian Wells title.
Sabalenka started the 2025 season on a high by winning the Brisbane International title. She then continued with the momentum at the Australian reaching the final. But her plans for a three-peat at the major event were thwarted by Madison Keys. The World No.1 succumbed to her first defeat at the tournament for the first time in two years.
After that, Sabalenka was looking to bounce back at the Qatar Open but she suffered a disappointing defeat against Linz Open champion Ekaterina Alexandrova in the second round. She then lost to Clara Tauson in the third round of the Dubai Tennis Championships, making it three losses in four matches.
However, Sabalenka is still determined to win titles despite her recent losses. The Belarusian revealed that the Indian Wells Open means so much to her, and she will go to any lengths to win the title for the first time in her career.
I love this tournament, and they call it another Slam, so I’m pretty excited and really want to go as far as possible. Winning this trophy means a lot because I had a lot of great experiences here at Indian Wells and I always wanted to win this tournament. It would be incredible to have this beautiful trophy in the house.

Sabalenka’s best run in Indian Wells was reaching the final in 2024, where she lost against Kazakhstan star Elena Rybakina. Last year, the World No.1 exited the Indian Wells Open in the fourth round after losing to Emma Navarro.
Aryna Sabalenka says she hopes the latest WTA rebranding will show the personalities of women players
The WTA recently announced an aggressive rebranding of the women’s tennis. In recent years, the women’s circuit has gotten more fans than the men’s tennis. For instance, in 2025, the Australian Open women’s singles closed the gap on the viewers for the men’s final.

Aryna Sabalenka was among the top players called upon to help push the WTA’s new brand. She narrated during the interview that she hopes the rebranding shows more of the personalities of women tennis players.
I would like them to show our personalities a little bit more just so people can actually see and know who we are outside of the tennis courts. I would like them to, if they post something and they do something on social media, post better pictures of us, not where we’re looking like really ugly and wrong.
