In Short
  • Aryna Sabalenka announced her wedding plans after getting engaged to Georgios Frangulis at Indian Wells.
  • She aims to make her wedding the best day of her life, but has not yet set a date due to her busy schedule.
  • Sabalenka is currently competing in the Miami Open, seeking to defend her title and win the Sunshine Doubles.

Aryna Sabalenka has opened up about her wedding plans following her engagement to boyfriend and longtime partner Georgios Frangulis, who proposed to her at Indian Wells. The 27-year-old is currently in Miami for the WTA 1000 tournament and will be seeking to win her third title of the season there.

Sabalenka returned to action for the first time in over a month at the Indian Wells Open. She had withdrawn from the Middle East swing due to an injury she sustained at the 2026 Australian Open, where she reached the final before losing the title to her rival Elena Rybakina in three sets at the Rod Laver Arena.

Nonetheless, days before her opening match at Indian Wells, Sabalenka revealed in a video that she said yes to boyfriend Frangulis when he proposed. Several players, including Novak DjokovicCoco GauffCarlos Alcaraz, and Paula Badosa, congratulated the couple. Sabalenka then wore the diamond ring during her opening match against Himeno Sakatsume.

The World No.1 has been dating Frangulis, the founder of Oakberry, since 2024, and the Brazilian has become a regular fixture in Sabalenka’s team on tour. Sabalenka went on to win the Indian Wells Open for the first time in her career. She lost the tournament finals in 2023 and 2025 to Rybakina and Mirra Andreeva, respectively.

Ahead of her Miami Open title defense, Sabalenka was asked by reporters about any information regarding her wedding. The 27-year-old revealed that she’s yet to plan that because of the current busy schedule, but stressed that she envisions her wedding to be the best day of her life if possible:

Not yet (about plans on a particular dress). I just want to make that day the best day, possible the best party. I want to have fun and for us it is important. It always takes so long to do it right. I don’t think before year and a half from now, but I do have ideas about how I see myself that day and where it should be. I’ll think about it six months from now but we are all planning for that big day.

Sabalenka defeated Rybakina in the final of the Indian Wells, which was her first win over the Kazakhstan star after three consecutive losses. Also, Sabalenka has the opportunity to win the Sunshine Doubles (winning the Indian Wells and Miami Open) in Florida. She’s the defending champion in Miami and among the top favorites to win the title.

Aryna Sabalenka gives reasons for skipping the Middle East swing

Aryna Sabalenka made a big decision in February by skipping the Qatar Open and the Dubai Tennis Championships. The Dubai tournament director, Salah Tahlak, was not well pleased with her decision to skip the tournament, and even that of Iga Swiatek. Missing the tournaments meant she might receive stiff penalties from the WTA.

During the aforementioned press conference, Sabalenka was asked why she decided to miss the Middle East swing. The four-time Grand Slam champion admitted that she feels the tour schedule has gone crazy, with many tournaments to compete in. Aside from that, she pointed out that she prioritized her health:

Going into this season, we decided… to prioritise my health and make sure we have these little gaps in the schedule where I can reset, recharge, work, and be better prepared for bigger tournaments. I feel like the scheduling is going crazy and that’s why you see so many players injured, always taped and not delivering the best quality matches because it’s almost impossible.

Sabalenka leads the women’s draw at the Miami as the top seed and will be eager to win the title. In the same quarter as her are Qinwen Zheng, Jasmine Paolini, and Elina Svitolina. She’s projected to face Svitolina in the fourth round, which will be their second meeting this year, as Sabalenka won the first in Melbourne.
