“As long as I want to defend it Dana will find me, opponents,” says two-division champ Amanda Nunes

“As long as I want to defend it Dana will find me, opponents,” says two-division champ Amanda Nunes

Amanda Nunes has put the promoters in a tough spot as the Brazilian is out here cleaning the division clean. UFC is having a hard time finding opponents for the Lioness as there’s very few contenders she is yet to defeat.

She is a two-division champion having belts in the women’s featherweight and women’s bantamweight division. Nunes has been defending her title in the featherweight division in her last two bouts. Her last fight was against Megan Anderson who she beat by submission in the first round.

Every opponent seems easy for Amanda at the moment with fans and spectators believe the UFC has to shut down a whole division until a worthy fighter comes up. Nunes denies such rumors about shutting down the division because of her.

“They did not cut the division,” Nunes told Amy Kaplan. “Dana [White] and I have a great relationship, as long as I want to defend it he will find me, opponents.”

“I see myself having my hand raised and retaining my belt,” says Nunes on the fight against Pena

Amanda Nunes and Julianna Pena

Of late, if there has been one fighter looking to snatch a belt off Nunes’ waist it is Julianna Pena. Julianna was originally scheduled to fight Holly Holm but the fight was called off. Now that Pena has no one to fight she urged Dana White to book a fight with the champion.

The UFC bossman also has hinted that this fight could happen in the near future. Amanda Nunes though isn’t necessarily impressed with her possible opponent. She feels like she would end up retaining the title again.

When asked about the fight against Pena, “I see myself having my hand raised and retaining my belt,” she said. “I will be working with a nutritionist and taking care of my body properly to have it working the way it needs to be.”
