Asghar Afghan equals MS Dhoni’s record of most wins as T20I skipper
Asghar Afghan and MS Dhoni
Afghanistan skipper Asghar Afghan accomplished a massive milestone to his name during the ongoing series against Zimbabwe in UAE. Afghan became the joint-most successful T20I captain (equalling MS Dhoni’s record) after his men registered a comfortable victory in the second match.
The Afghani skipper now has 41 T20I wins to his name. Meanwhile, his team claimed an unassailable lead of 2-0 in the three-match series as well. Coming to the game, Afghans won the toss and opted to bat first at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi. They posted a mammoth total of 193-5 on the board with brilliant knocks from Usman Ghani, Karim Janat and Mohammad Nabi.
Chasing 194, the Zimbabweans bundled out for 148 after terrific bowling spells from Nabi and Rashid Khan. As a result, Afghanistan beat Zimbabwe by 45 runs while Mohammad Nabi won the ‘Man of the Match’ award for his all-round performance.
“T20s are very important for us with the World Cup coming. Morale is high if you win. Today Karim and Usman’s partnership was really good,” Asghar said during the post-match presentation ceremony.
