Ash Barty is too content in her life to think about a retirement U-turn. Barty was just 25 when she decided to hang up her racket in March 2022.

She was comfortably sitting on top and had just won her career’s third Grand Slam title at the Australian Open when she made the shock announcement. Barty is now 29, which means she still has a chance to return to the tour, but the former World No.1 doesn’t miss tennis much; there are certain moments that she still misses.

You’ll probably miss out on the little moments when the team comes together, when they’re all together on the training track, in the gym. They work hard together, face really tough situations, and come out of them united.

Ash Barty told The New Daily

Barty has been married to Australian professional golfer Garry Kissick since 23 July 2022. The following year, on July 2, she gave birth to son Hayden, and last year in June, they welcomed daughter Jordan.

I certainly don’t miss living out of a suitcase. I’ve always been a homebody, and I love being at home. I love spending time with my children, my sisters, my nieces, and nephews. I’m very, very happy living a boring but content life. Obviously, my main priority and focus right now is being able to enjoy my children and my family, and watch them grow and develop. I love my life, I love my children. I love watching them learn and try new things, and I’m looking forward to enjoying the next few years with them.

Barty, apart from the 2022 Australian Open, lifted the 2019 French Open and the 2021 Wimbledon. She was also the winner of the 2019 WTA Finals. In WTA 1000s, she emerged as champion three times, at the 2019 and 2021 Miami Open and the 2021 Cincinnati Masters.

Ash Barty about her home tournament, the Brisbane International

The Brisbane International is the first singles tournament of the 2026 season. The ATP 250 and WTA 500 event, which commenced on January 6, is underway at Queensland Tennis Centre. Ash Barty is from Queensland. During that aforementioned interview with The New Daily, Barty shared how it feels to play a home tournament.

Something I’ve always appreciated is having the opportunity to play at home. Not every girl in the world gets the chance to play in her backyard, so for girls in Queensland, especially, it’s a special week. Whether you win or lose, you can just come here, get ready, play, enjoy yourself, and compete in front of your friends and family. It’s so much fun.

Barty, however, never lifted the Brisbane International and in fact she failed to progress to the quarterfinals in her five appearances. She won the Adelaide International and the Yarra Valley Classic twice, while at the Sydney International, she finished as runner-up twice.

At the 2026 Brisbane International, World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka will start her title defense on January 6. She will be up against Cristina Bucsa. After the Brisbane International and the Adelaide International, the tennis world will shift its focus toward the Australian Open.

The main draw of the first Major of the season will commence on January 18. America’s Madison Keys will enter the event as the defending champion. Last year, she denied Sabalenka her third consecutive title in the tournament.

World No.2 Iga Swiatek, who is a two-time finalist in the Melbourne Grand Slam, will be aiming to complete the Career Grand Slam. Barty, prior to her win in 2022, reached two quarterfinals in her home Major.
