Ashleigh Barty vs Danielle Collins: Preview

Ashleigh Barty

Top seed and local Ash Barty will open her Adelaide International campaign against Danielle Collins in the Round of 16 after receiving a bye in the first round.

The Aussie had a decent Australian Open outing. She reached the quarter-finals before bowing out to Karolina Muchova in three sets. She would want to forget that and go all the way to win her second tournament in 2021.

Her opponent, Danielle Collins is in great form too. It was at Adelaide last year that Danielle Collins played one of the best matches of her career, giving quite a scare to Ashleigh Barty herself. It took Barty three tough sets to finally end Collins’ challenge.

Last week, she reached the semi-finals of the Phillip Island trophy and has got the better of Chinese Zheng Saisai in the first round at the tournament.

Danielle Collins

This will be their fourth meeting. Ashleigh Barty leads Danielle Collins 3-0 in the H2H. Their most recent encounter was at the very same Adelaide a year ago. The Aussie had to dig deep for a gutsy 3-6,6-1,7-6(5) win.

Ashleigh Barty vs Danielle Collins: Prediction

Ashleigh Barty

The first-round encounter will be a tricky one for Ash Barty. Danielle Collins is one of the hardest hitters of the ball on women’s circuit and is in great form too. Collins can also mix things up with the occasional dropshot, and Barty needs to be ready for that.

But Barty is in decent form too. The world no.1 has also likely recovered from the left thigh strain that she was suffering from during her Australian Open campaign, and would be eager to put on a show for her home fans. Expect Barty to win in two tough sets.

Prediction: Barty to win in straight sets.
