Former Indian international Ashoke Dinda who announced his retirement from cricket this month has now joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in West Bengal. His announcement comes just hours after fellow international cricketer Manoj Tiwary announced that he was joining the Trinamool Congress. Both players’ entry into politics begins months before the assembly elections in the state.
Dinda joined the party in the presence of Union Minister Babul Supriyo as well as the vice-president of BJP in West Bengal Arjun Singh as reported by ANI. Manoj Tiwary on the other hand, announced his inclusion by taking to his social media handles and asking his fans for support.
Manoj Tiwary announces entry into politics
Earlier today, Manoj Tiwary announced his entry into politics and also joined the party in a rally where Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was also present. He talked to ANI about joining the party and said, “BJP is playing divisive policy and Mamata Banerjee is trying to unite people together. When I play cricket, I play for the country, not on the basis of religion.”
He also took to his Twitter account to say, “A new journey begins from today. Need all your love & support. From now onwards this will be my political profile on Instagram.”
Tiwary joining the TMC comes at an important time when a lot of important people are leaving the party expressing disgruntlement.
