Well, looks like fans were right hyping up Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty in his race for the Heisman Trophy against Colorado two-way superstar Travis Hunter. After a dominating victory against the San Jose State, Jeanty indeed paced up to Hunter’s odds, becoming a frontrunner like the wide receiver.
Besides Hunter, if anyone has stunned college football fans with his stats each week, it’s the Boise State star running back. The Week 12 game was another testament to it after Jeanty clinched the frontrunner spot for the grand Heisman Trophy.
Initially in the game, San Jose State took the lead at 14-0 in the first quarter, but before halftime, Jeanty and Maddax Madsen tied the score with touchdowns. Boise State’s first lead of 28-21 was also a result of Jeanty’s 36-yard touchdown early in the first quarter.
In the final nine minutes of the game, Boise State took possession of the ball after forcing a punt where the star running back showcased his prowess with a 12-play, 89-yard drive with his third touchdown.

While this victory ranked Boise State as No. 13 in College Football Playoff Rankings. Jeanty broke the single-season school rushing record by totaling up to 1,893 yards in the last ten games. The record was set by Jay Ajayi with 1,823 yards in 14 games in 2014.
Fan reaction to Ashton Jeanty becoming Heisman Trophy favorite
With this victory, Boise State has secured a spot in the Mountain West championship game, which gives the Maxwell Award semifinalist a chance to record more than 2,400 rushing yards by the time the Heisman Trophy ballot is due. And if he continues at his pace, he may surpass Barry Sanders’ rushing record of 2,628 yards set in 1988. That’s why fans contended that if Jeanty didn’t win the Heisman trophy, it would be disappointing.
One fan exclaimed, “He has the best stats of all college football. Him not winning the heisman would be a travesty,” while another wrote, “If this isn’t heisman material idk what is.” Here are some of the fan reactions:
