Aston Villa manager Unai Emery remained uninterested in getting to know about the reason behind Marcus Rashford‘s Manchester United departure. The Englishman ended his two-decade long association with the Red Devils to join Villa on loan. The forward will stay at Villa till the end of the season.

Marcus Rashford was frozen out of Manchester United’s squad since December last year. This was owing to a possible fallout with manager Ruben Amorim. The Portuguese boss noted the forward’s poor form, training efforts and attitude as a reason for his omission from the club’s squad. Halfway through the season, Rashford scored just seven times in 23 appearances for Man Utd.

With the 27-year-old forward also expressing his intent in taking up a new challenge, Aston Villa came to his rescue. He has joined Villa on a six-month loan deal. Villa will also have the option to sign Marcus Rashford permanently for £40 million at the end of the season. They will have to keep paying 75 percent of his massive wages until then.

Unai Emery makes a tough call regarding Aston Villa’s UCL squad, omits two new signings

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has made a tough call by omitting two of his new January signings for the Champions League knock-outs squad. Donyell Malen and Andres Garcia have been excluded from the club’s UCL squad ahead of the Round of 16.

Malen and Garcia were among the five new arrivals at Aston Villa in January, alongside Marcus Rashford, Marco Asensio and Axel Disasi. However, UCL rules allow teams to register only three new players after the end of the January transfer window. Unai Emery stated that he had a discussion with the two before they were axed from the squad. This happened despite letting go of six players from List A.

Nonetheless, Aston Villa will face any one team among Borussia Dortmund, Atalanta, Sporting CP or Club Brugge in the last 16. Villa narrowly made it into the top eight of the UCL table, claiming a much-needed automatic knockout place. It remains to be seen how far they can go this season.
