The Houston Astros on Sunday did another trade deal with the Chicago Cubs. They traded away relief pitcher Ryan Pressly in exchange for cash considerations. This has now ignited wild speculations among fans regarding a potential reunion with Alex Bregman.
The third baseman has been in the headlines recently. After turning down a $156 million contract in December, he is still exploring other options. With the Spring training rapidly approaching, the 30-year-old is eager to land himself a new deal.
A few days ago, Astros coach Joe Espada spoke regarding him and mentioned that the door was always open for him. Previously, he had been linked with a move to the Boston Red Sox and the Detroit Tigers.
While his future hangs in the balance, the future of Pressly has been decided. The veteran was expected to be traded away soon. As per reports from MLB.com, he waived his no-trade clause and will now join the Cubs bullpen.
The Chicago Cubs are finalizing a trade to acquire closer Ryan Pressly from the Houston Astros, pending medical review, sources tell ESPN. Pressly will waive his no-trade clause to Chicago to facilitate the move, and Houston will send money to help cover his $14 million salary.

The 36-year-old appeared in 59 games for the Astros last season. In this, he threw with an ERA of 3.49 and a 1.34 WHIP while going 2-3 with 58 strikeouts.
Pressly was on the mound for the Astros when they won the World Series in 2022. He picked up the final out as Kyle Tucker, another Astros star traded away to the Cubs this offseason, caught a flyout to give the Houston-based side their second World Series championship.

It now remains to be seen what the Astros will do next. If they do end up signing Alex Bregman, Jose Altuve could be moved to the left field as Christian Walker picks up first base, Bregman goes second and Isaac Paredes steps up on the third base.
