It’s quite evident that WWE is hellbent on stacking up the women’s roster across the board. Then, be it bringing in international stars like Giulia or retaining their top names, WWE isn’t taking anything for granted. Having said that, four-time Women’s Champion Asuka has renewed her WWE contract, and it is being said to be a long-term extension.
It was first reported by PWInsider. However, the outlet couldn’t dove into any specifics, like the terms and duration of the deal. Nonetheless, it’s great news for Asuka fans that she’d be staying with WWE for the years to come. At the moment, she’s on the sidelines, nursing a knee injury. The 42-year-old last competed at Backlash in France, where she and Kairi Sane lost their women’s tag team titles to Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair.
Reigning Women’s Champion Nia Jax broke character to laud Asuka following her gutsy performance at Backlash. The Japanese wrestler was visibly limping throughout the match but went the distance despite being at less than 100%. Jax called The Empress of Tomorrow one of the toughest humans she’s ever met.
Back in July, WWE toured Japan for a couple of live events. Asuka showed up in her hometown of Osaka and addressed the local fans. She felt grateful to be back home and thanked her people for always having her back.
Asuka’s fellow Damage CTRL partner Dakota Kai is also out for quite a while after suffering an unfortunate injury. However, Kai isn’t expected to be out for long. But, for Asuka, this year might not have anything left for her. Hopefully, she can pull off a surprise return at the Royal Rumble in 2025.
Bayley sends a message to Asuka asking her to return soon
Shortly after the news about her new deal with WWE made the rounds on the internet, Asuka took to X and posted a selfie. She used a thinking face emoji, which didn’t seem to have much substance to it.
However, beneath her post, former Women’s Champion Bayley hilariously told the Osaka-born wrestler to hurry up her return, calling her idiot in the process. These women do have some history. Asuka was part of Damage CTRL that turned on Bayley prior to WrestleMania XL.
The Role Model eventually went on to win the gold at The Showcase of the Immortals, beating Iyo Sky. The entire Damage CTRL saga featuring the redemption arc of Bayley was well received by the fans.
