Despite the tight security near Philadelphia’s Spring Garden neighborhood on February 14, two women were shot during the Eagles Super Bowl LIX victory parade. They were quickly taken to the hospital.

Following their Super Bowl victory over the Kansas City Chiefs on February 9, the team from Philly announced holding the traditional Super Bowl parade. Thousands gathered to watch Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley, AJ Brown, and DeVonta Smith, displaying their hard-earned Lombardi Trophy.

However, CBS News, Philadelphia Inquirer, and TMZ reported that two women were shot by unknown assailants close to Ben Franklin Parkway. The police cordoned the area quickly, and first responders quickly dispatched the two injured to the nearest hospital.

Ex-NFL player flabbergasted by shooting at Eagles Super Bowl parade

Besides being the day of love, the Super Bowl LIX victory held a significant emotional value for Philadelphia natives. The Lombardi Trophy was finally back in their neck of the woods since 2017.

They came close to winning the Super Bowl in 2023, but the Chiefs won on that occasion. Following a one-year gap, Nick Sirianni orchestrated a 40-22 win against Andy Reid’s Chiefs.

Bird’s supporters were extra motivated to showcase a fun and energetic Super Bowl parade until two women were shot. Former Steelers defensive back and ESPN contributor Ryan Clark could not believe another shooting occurred during the Super Bowl parade.

C’mon man!! Another shooting at a Super Bowl parade?

Shooting nightmare repeats itself

Clark’s reaction makes complete sense because this wasn’t the first time shots were fired during a Super Bowl parade. In fact, Feb 14 is the first anniversary of the tragic Chiefs Super Bowl parade shooting.

The Chiefs won their second straight Super Bowl in 2023 after beating the San Francisco 49ers. A week later, they held a parade at Union Station. Two people with guns opened fire on fans, leaving 22 injured, among them 11 were children from ages 6 to 15.

Later, a woman named Lisa Galvan Lopez died during surgery. According to the authorities, Lisa’s son was also among the victims, and one of her two cousins, believed to be minors, was injured in the chaos.

Mass gatherings are always a soft target for shooters or people who want to harm people. There have been cases of hooligans crashing their vehicles in crowded areas on purpose, killing several.

The NFL committee, the NFLPA, and local authorities must keep a tight leash during Super Bowl parades; otherwise, the fans will fear the worst while trying just to enjoy their team’s victory.
