Tokyo Olympics continues to throw surprises our way, as Men’s 100m semifinals produced several upsets. Medal favorites, Yohan Blake and American, Taryvon Bromell were knocked out in the semifinals itself, as they failed to qualify for the finals which will be held later on the same day.
The moment belonged to the Chinese, Su Bingtian who smashed the Asian Record in Men’s 100m, as he recorded a timing of 9.83 seconds. Ronnie Baker of America matched the Chinese’s time as he also recorded a timing of 9.83 seconds. This was Baker’s personal best timing, as he finished second in the third semifinals.

It was the third semifinal which was the most closely contested, as the last two places in the finals belonged to the athletes who finished third and fourth. LM Jacobs of Italy finished third in the heat with a timing of 9.84 seconds, whereas, Simbine of South Africa recorded a timing of 9.90 seconds.

It was a surprising run from the favorite and Rio bronze-medalist, Andre De Grasse who finished second in the first semifinal. The Men’s 100m finals at Tokyo Olympics are shaping up to be one of a kind, without any favorite. The stakes will be in favor Su Bingtian, who has emerged as a dark horse in the event. The Chinese recorded his best timing in 2018, which was 9.91 seconds, however, he bettered his timing on the biggest stages of all.
