Dina Asher-Smith is a British sprinter. She is the fastest British woman in recorded history and has been listed in the Powerlist as one of the UK’s most influential people of African/African Caribbean descent, most recently in the 2021 edition. Asher-Smith has won a gold medal in the 200m, silver in the 100m, and another silver in the 4x100m relay at the 2019 World Championships, breaking in the individual races her own British records with results that still stand. The 24-year-old was the first Briton to win three medals at a World Championships. In the 4x100m relay event, she has also earned a bronze medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics and a bronze and silver at the 2013 and 2017 World Championships, respectively.
Asher-Smith is entering the 2020 Tokyo Olympics with expectations that she might be able to repeat the heroics of what she did in Doha two years back, if not better it. After all, she is currently ranked World No.2 and World No.1 respectively in 100m and 200m. Asher-Smith is probably the only athlete who can give Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce a run for her money in 100m dash, while it would be an embarrassment if the Brit takes home anything beyond gold in a half-lap sprint. So it becomes all the more necessary to know a few little things about Dina Asher-Smith.

Dina Asher-Smith Parents
Dina’s parents Winston and Julie Asher-Smith were both originally from Jamaica but settled in the UK where they raised their daughter. Her father, Winston was a sprinter while in school, while her mother, Julie, played hockey professionally till she was 30. Dina’s parents have been supportive of her which has allowed her to push herself and thrive to become the best.
Asher-Smith can actually become the best if she achieves an improbable target, a hat-trick of medals in Tokyo. Not an easy task at all, but considering her form, it may be the best opportunity for her. A golden treble looks out of reach though as Fraser-Pryce is in a league of her own in 100m while Jamaica and the USA are firm favourites in the 4x100m relay. Regardless of this, if Asher-Smith wins medals in all her three events, it would be safe to add the word ‘legendary’ before the name of Dina Asher-Smith.
