Olympic champion and legend Usain Bolt has joined the world of esports as the co-owner of Wylde group. The company was originally founded two years ago by Steve Daly, a former investor at JP Morgan and David Cronin, CEO of the American Ireland Funds.
Usain Bolt will be involved in a range of activities focused on elevating Wylde’s growing brand, said the organisation. Bolt, who is the 100m and 200m record holder, retired in 2017 after suffering a hamstring injury. “I’ve been a gamer all my life and a proud member of the growing esports community. Wylde is on a journey to becoming one of the biggest brands in the fastest-growing sport in the world,” said Usain Bolt according to scmp.com.
“Esports helped me out with track and field”: Usain Bolt joins Wylde group
Wylde has an esports team competing in various games such as Rocket League and Fifa. The group aims to uphold Bolt to gain lucrative sponsor deals. Bolt has long been a part of esports, and said that he would skip practice when he was young to play video games. That also fuelled his competitiveness on track.
“I feel like it, in a way, kind of helped out with the track and field, because now, when you get on the track, you have that same mentality as when you’re playing video games. You just want to win,” said Usain Bolt.
