“I’m looking forward to racing in the streets of the city again”: Sir Mo Farah on running at this year’s Great Manchester Run
Sir Mo Farah
Legend and 4 time Olympic Champion Sir Mo Farah will be racing at this year’s Great Manchester Run. The 39-year-old will be at the event for the first time in four years, since he last claimed victory.
Farah failed to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics last year, but said that he said later that he would not retiring anytime soon. The race is to be held in May, and Farah is clear that the injury problems that plagued him for so long as now well past him. “Training has been going well and I am happy with the shape I am showing. Any time I race in the UK it is exciting for me because I love running in front of my home fans and I want to give my best for them,” said Sir Mo Farah according to Manchestereveningnews.uk.
“I had an amazing reception when I won in 2018”: Sir Mo Farah to race once again
“I had an amazing reception in Manchester when I won the event in 2018 so I’m looking forward to racing on the streets of the city again later this year,” said Farah. Last year Sir Mo Farah became champion over Moses Kipsiro in one of the most memorable finishes.
With 100m to go, they went on an exhilarating sprint finish which was eventually won by Farah in a time 28:27. This year his biggest competition will be fellow Brit and runner up of the 2021 Run, Andy Butchart. His rival will be on his best pace, as he just set a new Scottish record over 10k earlier this month.
Both Brits will also face tough competition from Australian Stewart McSweyn, three-time Oceanic record holder, and four-time Diamond League winner.
