100m Tokyo Olympic Champion Lamont Marcell Jacobs is heading to Eugene, Oregon to test out the waters ahead of the upcoming World Championships. He was forced to miss the Diamond League in Stockholm due to issues with muscle tension. After making his comeback this year, Jacobs won that race at the Italian National Championships.

Jacobs has however, missed four Diamond Leagues till now, including the ones at Eugene, Rome, Oslo and the most recent one at Stockholm. Now, with just two weeks left for the World Championships to start, Jacobs has revealed that he will not be able to compete at Stockholm after an issue with muscles in his glutes.

“I am the first to want to get on the top step of the podium for me and for all of you. You too know how much dedication I put into it every day, if it were up to me I would compete on every occasion, but sport is like this. We are human beings, not machines. I will update you step by step in the coming days,” he said in his Instagram post.

Jacobs became the first Italian to win Olympic 100 metres gold in Tokyo last August, setting a European record of 9.80s. He added another gold medal to his list with a win in 4x200m event. However, since then he has primarily been sitting out, and has not been particularly seen in action at international events.
