WATCH – Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra breaks his own national record with 89.30m throw at Paavo

Indian javelin star Neeraj Chopra breaks his own national record at Paavo Nurmi Games held in Finland on Tuesday with an 89.30m throw. It was his second attempt where he got to secure the silver medal in the game. Last year in Patiala he scored an 88.07 m throw whereas now he bettered and overcame his own best. 

The 24-years old gave his personal best and broke his national record to finish behind Finland’s Oliver Helander won was the gold winner with a personal best throw of 89.83 m. The reigning world champion and 2022’s world leader Anderson Peters claimed the bronze with 86.60 m. This competition in Finland was the first experience for Neeraj Chopra since he won the gold medal in Tokyo in 2020 last year August.

Tokyo Olympics champion Neeraj Chopra’s throw listed him in the 5th spot on the list of world leaders, according to timesnownews.com. Neeraj noted, “Very nice competition, and I am very happy for my personal best and national record. Oliver (Helander) had very good technique today. I tried maybe too much because that was my first competition of this season. I will compete next in Kuortane after four days”.

However, India failed to gain a legitimate attempt in his third throw and ended up with an 85.85m during his last attempt. As of now, Neeraj is scheduled to stay in Finland to compete at the Kuortane Games before heading to Sweden for Stockholm Diamond League on June 30. Earlier he had his training in the USA and Turkey before shifting to Finland last month.
