Recently, British sprinter Reece Prescod became the first European male to break the 10 second barrier in the 100m event in 2022 at the Golden Spike Meet on Tuesday.

Prescod set a blistering time of 9.93s to take first place, as he surged over in the last 20m. He finished ahead of Yohan Blake, and clocked a personal best time despite running into a headwind. Blake on the other hand, finished in second with a time of 10.05s. It is the third fastest 100m ever by a Brit, behind Linford Christie’s time of 9.87s and James Dasaolu and Hughes’ 9.91s.

The time reduction is a great surprise for the Brit, who ran a time of 10.65 at the Diamond League earlier this month. “It was a great race so I am really happy about that,” said Prescod to bbc.com. “I feel in a good place and I will hopefully get myself into some hot races now after running that time.”

Olympic Champion Allyson Felix did not have a great meet, finishing over 2.5 seconds behind the eventual winner Aminatou Seyni of Niger, who won in 22.21s. Felix has announced her retirement next year, and this will be her last year competing. Ethiopia’s Lamecha Girma dominated the men’s 3000 steeplechase with a blistering time of 7.58.68 minutes.
