Mario Kart ‘helped’ Usain Bolt conquer the World
Usain Bolt is a big fan of video games
Usain Bolt has been synonymous with sprinting events ever since he bagged his maiden Olympic medal. An absolute superstar, Bolt has achieved a lot in his illustrious career, breaking and setting numerous records. Regarded as the fastest man ever to be born on planet earth, Bolt holds the world record in both, the 100m as well as 200m races.
While the Jamaican has as many as 8 Olympics Gold medals to his name, he feels it was the video games that helped him conquer the world. Bolt shared that the video games kept his hunger for winning growing which manifested on the track. The former Olympic and World champion revealed that he loves to play games.
“For me, those are the things that excite me about video games. Just learning and being the best at it. I feel like it kinda helped my hunger, I would say. To always want to win. But I feel like it, in a way, kind of helped out with the track and field, because now, when you get on the track, you have that same mentality as when you’re playing video games. You just want to win,” Bolt told BBC.
Usain Bolt reckons he might have ended up being a gamer
On being quizzed if video games helped him become the legendary champion we know today, he said, “It helped, it helped.” According to the Olympian, videos games, like sports, drove him to learn new skills and be the best.
Bolt reckons that he might have ended up being an e-sports streamer had he not found his calling in track events. The Jamaican adds that he sometimes skipped training to play his favourite video games. And have ended up in trouble with his father for the same on numerous occasions.
“Probably, probably. I think I was so much into video games when I was younger because sometimes I would skip training to go to the video games store to play video games.”
“My coach would call my dad and tell him, ‘Listen, he didn’t come to training today,’ and then my dad would be like, ‘Why didn’t you go to training?’ and I had no answer. You know what I mean? So that was just one thing, I know if we had what we have now I would definitely be a gamer, for sure,” said Bolt.
Bolt, who already has his statue in front of Jamaica’s National Stadium, is all set to be honoured with a statue yet again. This time around it is South Florida which will be honouring the legendary sprinter with a life-sized bronze statue.
