Rublev had a first round bye. In the second round he beat the fifteenth seed Taylor Fritz 6-3 6-1. The Quarter Finals saw him overcome Márton Fucsovics 7-5 6-2. Fucsovics has been beaten three times out of three by Rublev in the past month or so. First a win in the Rotterdam Final, then a walkover win at Qatar, and now the third one in Dubai. Rublev’s opponent in the Semifinal will be his doubles partner Aslan Karatsev.

Karatsev has turned a new leaf in 2021. He has been to the Australian Open Semifinal, and here too he has reached the Semifinals. Karatsev beat Egor Gerasimov and Dan Evans in the first two rounds here.

Andrey Rublev vs Aslan Karatsev: Prediction

Andrey Rublev

Rublev is playing the best tennis that he ever has. His counter attacking brand of tennis is simply outstanding, especially his return of serve. Most importantly, his confidence is sky high right now. Karatsev has stamina and belief aplenty.

In both his round of 16 match and the Quarter Finals he came from a set down to win the matches in three sets. Karatsev’s biggest weapon is his backhand. A tough match to call, but Rublev is in better form and he should win this.

Match Prediction: Andrey Rublev will beat Aslan Karatsev in three sets.
